I called out his name Once or twice.... But he looked....as though Someone called him... From a distant-sky! He simply sat there, gazing & wondering, with an Air of Such Dignity; that reverberates with Thundering! Nay! He's not just a needle in a haystack; But my sons best freind; My Extended Family; With A Name synonym to Charcoal lead; As we loving call him "Kalu" As in the colour Black! . After cocos coming in my life, he's changed my outlook, where most of the dogs or even in other animals I see him. Kalu though is a few months older to Coco, I still remember when Coco was barely a 3month pup, Kalu would come right to his face & bark. He was the perpetual alpha amongst his sibling & mother, who disappeared even before Kalu crossed his puppy line. Though Kalu & puppy never go well, when put in one sentence. As we address Kalu as the terror of our apartment complex. Though he eventually grew out of his alpha mode within a few weeks of Cocos coming & is always a Self-proclaimed body guard when around Coco, by not allowing any other dog to come near him. But lately he's allowed a female dog as his companion after living almost 8-9years by himself. The female dog is called Sandy & even Basanti What amazes me is this breed the Indian mongrel, they can survive anywhere, they are ingrainedly territorial, yet they are aware of each & every residential member, whom they'll protect as their own family. The apartment ground becomes their home & pet lovers see to it that not just the food but their medication is taken care. Unlike most countries in India Its illegal to cause any injury to any animals. So they are not put down. . Kalu is my son & he truly epitomises the spirit that these dogs carry. The video here is when both Kalu & Basanti are seen barking at a cat, who's sitting on one of the boundary walls of our apartment. It's their guarding instinct that's come forth & it's amazing to see, that Kalu does the same when he'll know it's an outsider & some strange-man not from our complex . Copyright: Meghna/2019
